AI Tech and Product Releases
Google announces Bard now helps you code, supporting code generation, debugging and code explanation. Supports over 20 programming languages like C++ and Python. The Export to Colab option is brilliant for quick experimentation and refinement.
Google says: “Bard is still an early experiment, and may sometimes provide inaccurate, misleading or false information while presenting it confidently.” This caveat relates to how Google has released products before they have been fully tested, which has alarmed some of their own employees working in AI Safety. End users are the testers; Google is moving fast(er) and some things will break. To be fair, other large AI models have the same issue.

Samsung may replace Google search with Bing’s AI chatbot on its devices.
Google, feeling the heat of AI competition, has decided to merge DeepMind and Google Brain’s AI team into one focused AI team.
DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis will serve as the CEO of Google DeepMind, where Pichai says he will “lead the development of our most capable and responsible general AI systems.”
One takeaway is that DeepMind’s great talents have been used on AI research but has not been a profit center, and now Google is calling on them to lead on AI products as well. With DeepMind’s talent and record, I would not count them out.
