Data in any of the new AI chats is only up to 2021. A whole two years missing. I wonder when they will update and how often.

That's a great question. Unfortunately OpenAI is being opaque on their data sets and future plans. It certainly seems it would be a competitive advantage to have more current data in the model. That alone is keeping me on search engine queries for recent news info requests.

It's strange, the silence, because every tool launching to the public - there's lots, of varying quality and value - cut off at 2021.

If I wanted trends and analysis on, global GPD by county, or to understand the global economic impact of Russia's war on Ukraine, no current AI tool can give me anything, and neither can a search engine, ordinary and fallible human research still needed, and many days of work.

For all the benefits, if AI tools leave us hanging in 2021 for long, it's going to be funny / embarrassing real fast.

I have to assume that updates for currency is a huge task, but if there's no development roadnap, the shock and awe of initial launch will look almost pointless.

Using Bing Chat or chatGPT with browser plug-ins overcomes that gap to some extent.

How have you found that so far, as a workaround?

Mixed bag. I find Bing chat ends up not much better than straight up search engine for some queries. For example, trying to get Bing Chat to give you the top 10 cited AI research papers of 2022 via "What are the top 10 most cited AI research papers from 2022?" the answer is good, but only because there's linked blog posts on it, which you could get via search engine query. btw the links to answer that Q are https://www.zeta-alpha.com/post/must-read-the-100-most-cited-ai-papers-in-2022 and https://blog.re-work.co/the-top-17-must-read-ai-papers-in-2022/

Ask chat-gpt about "Chemical castration for pedophiles"

You will get an immediate ban,

The problem with chat-gpt is that its woke-filtered by SV team open-ai, so you must run the unfiltered version, which is ONLY available to MIL and/or LEO

Or U can 'roll your own'

In this post I explain how to run your own unfiltered chat-gpt at home on your own computer privately with no online censorship or monitoring.

FWIW Bing Chat allowed me to ask about "why do sex offenders get chemical castration?" and giving fact-based response. I have observed several cases of 'woke' bias in chatGPT (eg refusing to offer skeptical point of view on climate change concerns) but less so in Chat GPT/GPT-4 and other models. It's something to be aware of though.

Great piece. I'm about to do eight hours of introductory training, of which you've probably covered most! We'll see 😉
